By the legal definition, cheating at roulette relates to unlawful methods to win. These can land you a prison sentence. But there are several “legal ways to cheat roulette”, and it is impossible to be charged by police with such methods, because you aren’t breaking any laws. By saying “legal”, I mean the methods aren’t specifically illegal, but the casino will ban you if they catch you. To go straight to the very best cheating methods, see www.hybridroulettecomputer.com and www.roulette-computers.com – these are hidden devices that predict the winning number.
Gambling laws and jurisdiction
Firstly understand that gambling law differs between different jurisdictions, and gambling law is state-based. So even in the same country, what’s legal in one state may not be legal in another, and vice versa.
An example of legal and illegal cheating
In some states, cheating is defined as any method that alters or influences the outcome of a game. For example, using magnets to influence the winning number is clearly cheating. But if you use technology to merely predict the winning number, without influencing where the ball will land in roulette, then this isn’t cheating. Of course it depends on what the laws actually specify, or define as “cheating”. With this particular example, around half the jurisdictions state you can’t influence the winning number, but not that you can’t merely predict it. This means often devices such as roulette computers are legal.
Does it mean the casino will allow you to use them? Certainly not. Because the casino is private property, and they have their own in-house rules, and they can ask you to leave for any reason they want.
The exception is casinos that are owned and run by the government. I wont go naming specific jurisdictions, but such casinos are forbidden from excluding anyone, unless there is good legal cause. So in such casinos, you can’t be banned for using something like a roulette compeer that merely predicts spin outcomes. And you can’t be charged with a criminal offence.
It sounds a little too good to be true, but keep in mind no casino will ever tolerate a consistent winner. Decades ago when a particular professional player was winning hundreds of thousands all legally, the casino tried many things to make him lose. They tried moving wheels, speeding up spins and more, but it made no difference, besides a minor inconvenience. As a last resort, he was physically ejected from the casino. He then took the matter to court, and won. The casino had no choice but to allow him to play. Eventually though, they figured out how he was winning, and made his techniques too difficult to apply. So he had no choice but to play elsewhere. But since his name became widespread, he found it increasingly difficult to win without heat from casino staff.
This is just an example to highlight the fact that legal or not, casinos will do whatever they must to stop you from winning. They can’t profit unless most of the players lose. And they certainly don’t want some loose cannon player winning huge sums.
The illegal methods: How to cheat a roulette wheel
Wheel gaffing
This is basically modifying the wheel to make spins more predictable. It is illegal everywhere, except on casino cruise ships that are in international waters, where there are no gaming laws at all. A good example of this is loosening parts of the wheel so that the ball bounces less in specific areas. This creates a “deadening” of bounce, and it leads to wheel bias, where specific numbers will spin more than others. Normally a casino’s automated software will detect this bias, but only after thousands of spins. If you know where the deadened area is, you will be able to take advantage of it before the casino knows.
Magnetic balls
There have been very rare incidents where a magnetic ball is somehow swapped with the real ball. Then it’s behavior can be influenced with magnetic pulses. When I first heard of this, it seemed a little unlikely but was actually true, and I was contacted by a team that had done it for some time. They didn’t use actual magnets, otherwise the ball would stick to ordinary metallic objects. Instead, the ball contained a special coil with diodes. When the ball fell onto the rotor, the user would observe where they expected it would land. If it was expected not to land in the area they bet in, two parts would be activated. The first part would use magnetic induction to create an electric current in the ball’s coil. And another component would push the ball away from the wrong area to the area the players bet in. All this happened very quickly, so that it did not cause noticeable interference with the casino’s electronic systems. Another team using similar equipment were caught, although not the player(s) I came to know.
There are many other methods which involve placement of the betting chips, such as discretely placing bets after the ball has actually landed. Generally, cheating methods are not specifically advantage play, and advantage play strategies are recognized as legal by casinos. It doesn’t mean the casino will allow you win continue using advantage play strategies if you are detected.
Legal “cheating” methods
These methods are legal in some jurisdictions, and illegal in others:
Roulette computers
These are predictive devices. They don’t influence the winning number. See www.roulette-computers.com. The best of these devices is shown below:
Wheel clocking
There are a few different meanings to the term “wheel clocking”, but it is not exclusively used for “taking timings” of the wheel and ball. Some such methods do use electronic devices to store data that would otherwise be too difficult to manage without electronic devices. Some gambling law is specific to the point where it will state electronic devices are forbidden, for the use of storing or projecting game outcomes. Around half of the gambling jurisdictions have such specific laws.
How can you cheat at roulette online?
If it is RNG (random number generator) roulette, then this isn’t real roulette. It’s a slot machine with computer animations of a roulette wheel. And you can’t beat slot machines, that is without actually interfering with the mechanical operation of the machine itself.
If you can’t access the wheel, then your options are fewer, but you still do have the option of roulette computers. But because of what we’ve done to online casinos that allow late betting, now most online casinos call no more bets much earlier. Still though, other methods are suitable for online roulette. But I’m referring to online roulette only where real wheels are used.
You can test cheating methods at free online virtual roulette, provided a real wheel is used, unlike the roulette simulator. And it is important professional advice to avoid any online casino bonus as they are designed to restrict your behavior and winnings.
Electronic roulette appeared in the mid-twentieth century and quickly became included in the range of games available in casinos. Electronic roulette differs from live roulette in that it does not require the presence of a dealer as it uses an automated system to release the ball. There are different types of electronic roulettes such as Diamond Roulette by Interblock, Dominator by Novomatic or Red Winner by Picmatic.
Electronic Roulette in Casinos
It is possible to play electronic roulette at some online casinos such as 32 Red, 888 or Black Diamond where they are also referred to as Automatic or Auto Roulette. The use of electronic roulettes allows casinos to save on the cost of organizing games and hiring personnel. In addition, for land based casinos, the electronic version occupies less space than conventional roulette, which makes it possible to provide a game room with more machines that more players can use at the same time.
You can find electronic roulette machines in many of the well known casinos in the top gambling cities of the world including The Mirage in Las Vegas, The Venetian in Macau, The Hippodrome in London, The Macau Sporting Club in Cork, The River Rock Casino Resort in British Columbia and The Star Casino in Sydney.
Free Electronic Roulette
In some casinos it is possible to play free electronic roulette online thanks to the no deposit bonuses or welcome bonuses. These allow you to get to know the casino games and play for free without having to make a deposit. Although there are often restrictions to the gambling games you can play using the funds from a no deposit bonus.
At 888 online casino you can play electronic or auto roulette for free with their no deposit bonus of €88.
Electronic Roulette Machines
The operation of electronic roulette machines is very simple. As in any roulette game, your goal is to guess on which number the ball will land.
The electronic roulette software is based on an electronic circuit where an air blower launches the ball and rotating plates accelerate its movement. The ball is launched around 60-80 times per hour, which is approximately every 30-45 seconds. Although this varies from one model to another. The electronic roulette machine has an auto roulette wheel in the centre and bet terminals with touch screens located around it. Despite what many think, they do not use magnets, instead, the system has optical and proximity sensors that detect the position of the ball.
The wheel is covered with a protective cover to prevent any type of tampering, damage or unauthorized access. This game of chance can accomodate several players at once although it is also possible to find individual electronic roulette games.
Electronic Roulette Bets
Before you start playing, you have to know about the different roulette bets. In the electronic version, you do not place your chips on a table, instead you must use an electronic screen.
Some machines have systems of protection against simultaneous bets, so they do not allow you to bet identical sums on opposite positions like black/red, odd/even, low/high, etc. If such bets are made, a warning message will appear stating that the bet is not valid and the player must withdraw or modify their bet in order to continue the game.
Casinos usually include new and different bets on their electronic roulettes. But in general, you can bet on the 37 numbers with simple bets such as black/red, lower (1-18) / higher (19-36), odd/even or combination bets.
You can combine inside bets with outside bets. Inside bets are:
- Trio is a bet on the first three numbers eg: 0, 1 and 2 or 0, 2 and 3.
- Split is a bet on two numbers that are beside each other on the betting table eg: the line between 25 and 28 puts a bet on both numbers.
- Street is a bet on three numbers that are in a row eg: 7, 8, 9 or 19, 20, 21.
- Corner is a bet for four numbers that are in a square eg: 17, 18, 20 and 21.
- Sixline is the bet for six numbers that form a rectangle, if you place your chips where the line below 31 and 34 and the line between 31 and 34 make a T, you will be betting on 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 & 36.
Outside bets:
- Column is a bet on one of the three rows of numbers as shown on the betting area.
- Dozen is a bet for the first, second or third dozen numbers (1-12, 13-24 or 25-36).
Electronic Roulette Manufacturers
There are several electronic roulette developers:
Roulette Slot Machine Strategy
- Fazi is the leading developer of electronic roulette in the Balkans. Their games include Optimum, Key One, Zed and Triple Crown.
- Novomatic stands out for its 24 terminal electronic roulette that can be found in some of the larger casinos around the world.
- Picmatic is a Spanish developer that since 1984 has been developing arcade machines and roulettes. Among them are Red Winner Roulette and Bill Roulette.
- The company Interblock, based in Slovenia, has developed Diamond Roulette and Organic Roulette. In addition Interblock has also created Chinese roulette and individual electronic roulette machines.
- IGT has created electronic roulette machines with one and two zeros.
Despite the different roulette models that we can find in the market, the latest generation electronic roulettes have some common characteristics:
- They use three sensors to quickly detect where the ball falls.
- They include an automatic change of the ball.
- The wheel has a high hardness coverage with carbon fiber and several highly reliable fraud prevention systems.
Electronic Roulette Games
There are two main types of electronic roulette games, the European version (with a zero) and the American version (with two zeroes). European roulette has 37 numbers, 18 red, 18 black and one zero, and American roulette has 38 numbers, 18 red, 18 black and two zeroes.
As the electronic European roulette has 37 numbers (from 0 to 36), this gives an advantage to the casino of 1/37 or 2.70%. While the American roulette, which has 38 numbers, gives the casino an advantage of 2/38 or 5.26%.
How to win at Electronic Roulette
Electronic roulette, like live roulette with a dealer, is a game of chance, so victory depends largely on luck and the bets you make. Throughout the history of roulette, countless strategies and tricks that can help you learn how to win have been developed. These include the Martingale system and the Law of the Third.
Land based casinos try to prevent manipulations and any kind of unfair play. For this reason, one of the essential criteria when deciding whether or not it is worth playing a particular electronic roulette, is that the wheel must be visible, otherwise it could have been tampered with or altered so that it becomes unreliable.
